| How Can I Keep My Cats Off My Sons Bed? | |||||
|
Hello, I own 3 cats, They are always going on my 2 year old sons bed and leaving it covered in hair it has come to the point where I have to shut his bedroom door during the day. They get on his bed at night so every morning I have to wash his bed covers. I have tried punishing them but yelling at them, clapping at then and spraying water on them but they don't seem to care they get off his bed for about 10 minutes and get back on straight away it is driving me crazy! They have also been getting in the all the things I have brought for our new baby that is due in December the bassinet has been covered in cat hair I have had to wash it about 12 times to get all the hair off it I am very worried that they will get into the baby's bed when he is born and end up smothering him. I don't really want to get rid of them, I am trying to make that my last choice please if anyone has any ideas on what to do please let me know. Thanks There are plastic mats you can place under an office chair to keep the wheels from messing up the carpet. The underside of those mats have little teeth to hold it in place. You can lay it tooth side up on the bed. The teeth won't hurt the cats but are uncomfortable enough to deter them from laying on the bed. My baby cousin was smothered by my aunts cat. It didn't do it on purpose but she smelled like formula and was warm. I wouldn't get rid of your cats but moniter them around the new baby for awhile. Your cats might be scared of the new baby and not want anything to do with him/her. Everytime time they are near the bed, spray them with a squirt of water, and they will eventually stop. Cats do not like being sprayed with water. Use wax paper. They do not like the sound that it makes when they walk on it close the door to his room A cat will just always try to find the most comfy place. And as far as the cat smothering the baby, that's an urban myth.
I'd suggest getting the cats their own nice soft warm bed. Something they'd prefer to sleep in other than your son's bed. Also, a trick I've used to keep a cat off of something is: Tinfoil. Crumple it up, then spread it back out, and tape it over whatever you want them to stay off of. They don't like the feel of it under their feet. Also, I know some people use a semi-sticky tape for the same reason. Good luck. |
