i just got a new pomeranian puppy and I have been keeping him in the kitchen and closing all the bathroom door etc so he doesnt get into anything. well the one time i forgot to close the bathroom door the little booger went in there and got a hold of a razor. I noticed his mouth bleeding last night, but wasnt sure how bad he was cut. he has been slowly bleeding since then. To the point now its very scary. his fur coat is covered in blood and he is no more then 3 lbs :( My husband is at work and I dont have the car to get him to the vet until 3. what can i do to help him with the bleeding until he gets here. I am so scared for him hes just laying around now. I just want to take him to the vet but i feel powerless. Any suggestion on what i can do to ease the bleeding at all??!! Please help Ive grown really attached to him since we got him

OH dear, First- I will say to call a taxi and bring him to the EMERGENCY Vet in your area.

In the meantime:

Gashes or cuts to soft tissue in a dog's mouth can be hard to control Bleeding. Try taking some ice cubes and hold it directly on the cut to constrict the blood vessels. It might help stop the bleeding. Get a gauze pad and apply pressure if you can.

Regular all-purpose flour can be used for small cuts to stop bleeding. Pack the wound with the flour and hold a gauze pad tightly against the wound. The flour helps the blood clot.

apply direct pressure to the wound. Take care that your dog does not bite you. Cover the wound with a clean cloth or bandage and then apply pressure directly to the wound to slow blood loss.

Keep the puppy still and calm while you transport it to the vet but get it there as soon as you can

You need to get the dog to the vet immediately! Call your husband home, call a cab, call a friend or relative. Even ask your neighbor, but it shouldn't wait!!!! He may have internal bleeding as well! Even call your vet. In some situations they are willing to make house calls. THIS IS URGENT!!

is the blood coming from cuts in his mouth, or blood that is coming from his stomach or throat?

I would call the closest vet, tell them what's up, and see if a vet tech can pick you up or something.

You need to call everyone you know and see if you can get a ride. Or call your vet to see what you can do until 3. Or call your husband and tell him to come home. This is a small puppy and could bleed out in no time.

Wow! Your dog could bleed out...call a neighbor, friend, anyone as your dogs needs to get to a vet ASAP! Also call your vet and tell them what happened and your situation and maybe they can help you or know someone that can.

Uhh do you have a neighbor that you can call to take you to the vet or borrow their car. If I were you I would do that immediately.

Take a taxi, bus or have a friend drive you; that dog needs medical attention as soon as possible.

HOW EFFIN SCARY DOES IT HAVE TO GET BEFORE YOU TAKE THIS DOG TO THE VET?

He's been bleeding since last frikin night? And you're sitting around wringing your hands and on the internet? What if this was your child covered in blood? What would you do then?

These are your choices:

1) call your husband and having him come home ASAP so you can take your dog to the vet NOW

2) call a cab so you can take your dog to the vet NOW

3) continue to putz, and maybe the bleeding will stop when your dog runs out of blood.

My pups chewed on a disposable razor once. Thank god they didn't cut their mouths or swallow shards of razor .. but at the first sign of bleeding or distress- we're out the door on our way to the vet.

Where is he bleeding from? His mouth? Or do you think its possible that he swallowed some?

My pup POSSIBLY did it once. I'm not sure if he actually swallowed the razor blade or not.
Vets advise: If pup swallowed the blade, and MRI and GI procedure is the only thing that they can do to make sure. Watch for blood in feces.

In either case....call your vet...discuss the situation over the phone...they should be able to at least give you some advise until you get a hold of a car.
