| My cat broke her foot. How long will it take to heal? | |||||
|
My cat is about 9 months old and broke her foot earlier today. We can't bring her to the vet because they don't do anything about feet. So approximately how long will it take to heal and is there anything I can do to make it heal faster? Thanks in advance. I have a question for you. How do you know your cat's foot is broken if you haven't taken her to a vet? The only way to know that there's a fracture is by taking x-rays and unless you have an x-ray machine at home, you can't diagnose a fracture. But giving you the benefit of the doubt and assuming that there actually is a fracture, she needs to be seen by a vet. I've never in my entire life heard of a vet that won't treat a cat's feet, so if that's what some vet's office told you, you need to find another vet. The appropriate treatment will depend on what part of the foot was fractured (was it at the level of a joint or was it a bone between joints?) and what type of fracture it is (nondisplaced or displaced). If the fracture is a displaced fracture (the bone actually splits and part of the bone displaces into the surrounding soft tissues) that's left untreated, there could be complications. There could also be complications if the fracture involves a joint, such as the development of arthritis. The healing time for different types of fractures varies, and the healing time also depends on whether or not the appropriate treatment is given. So PLEASE take your cat to a vet. As far as I know, there's no such thing as a vet that doesn't treat an animal's feet. "We can't bring her to the vet because they don't do anything about feet." That makes absolutely zero sense, and you clearly haven't even taken her in yet since you'd say something that stupid! It won't heal unless she sees a vet, and she might lose the ability to walk. Many cats and dogs are put to sleep if they completely lose the ability to walk because their quality of life decreases vastly. Don't put your kitty through that! Seeking a second opinion from another vet is a good idea, if possible. Depending on the complexity of the fracture, it could need to be cast or operated on. Check for board-certified veterinary surgeons at www.acvs.org (American College of Veterinary Surgeons). That's my advice. Your cat's foot might heal 'incorrectly' and this could result in numerous movement, joint, and pain issues. Best of luck! Hugs and kisses to your kitty. :) It wont heal if you don't take her to a vet, I've never heard of a vet that wont do anything about feet, its still part of the animal. ya you should wrap the foot and make sure the cat doesn't run around on it. if the cat is moving too much the leg could go from fractured to broken so be carefull :D well its not gona heal if u dont find a vet to fix it.
