| What type of dog is best to get with a little brother age 6 with down syndrome? | |||||
|
He yells and throws stuff and bites sometimes. So i'm not sure what dog to get please help. Your best bet is probably a lab, golden retriever, Newfoundland, Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, etc. Large dogs that are considered gentle giants are a good choice. You may want to consider a puppy even though they are a lot of work because when raised in an environment they are naturally more comfortable with it. Always supervise and remove the dog if your brother gets rough with it until he calms down. Dogs are an enormous help to people with disabilities, did you know that petting a dog can actually lower your blood pressure? I think that a dog would most likely be a wonderful companion for your brother and may even help him in ways you couldn't have imagined. =) I'd probably say a low energy and hardy breed, something that can take a little bit of annoyance. Maybe a bulldog? Get a larger breed dog that can be more tolerant of hitting and biting. Labradors and boxers are great dogs to start looking at, they are generally even tempered and family oriented Does he have a psychiatrist or physician you could ask about this? My guess would be a large mild mannered dog. I hear Mastiffs are very laid back. I wouldn't imagine you could go wrong with a golden retriever either. A lot of it will be the dog's temperament though and you definitely wouldn't want a dog that the child could hurt. i agreed with the person above. a bulldog will be prefect Beagles and Welsh Corgies are very smart and loving dogs. They will love him unconditionally, but be smart enough to stay away if brother wants to bite. golden retrievers are really friendly dogs. They aren't small so they dont need much care for and they can always comfort him. Good Luck! Definitely not a puppy or a small breed. Puppies and little dogs are usually ill equipped to handle the enthusiasm of a young child. If your brother is prone to episodes of violence, you will likely need to find a mature dog with a tolerant nature. I always advocate going to the animal shelters. Try to find something in the retriever family (mixes are fine) as they generally put up with a lot of abuse with a smile on their faces. They are all around family dogs and very sturdy. :) I would first suggest a lab or golden retriever, for reasons listed above. Labs are so gentle and can put up with a lot. . If you want a smaller breed, I would suggest a corgi. They are very hardy but still small in size, and extremely tolerant of children, and also extremely intelligent. corgi owner Labs! They don't care what happens You may not want a dog at all. I don;t think this would be fair to a dog but if you want a very gentle dog,a golden retriever is a very calm quiet dog and they will take a lot of abuse.
