Would I need to ask permission?
I'm big on nature photography (having just bought myself a canon xsi in january) and around where I live there are a few farms with animals in large fenced areas right by the road such a sheep, horses, cows, etc. I was wondering if I'm allowed to photograph the animals or would I need to get the owner's permission first? Thanks.
No, not necessary to ask permission. I bet if you do meet the folks that they will consider it a compliment that you want the photos. They will probably give you access to the animals so you can get all angles without the fence.
no you wouldnt have to unless its like on his property then you would have to ask to stepp into his property to take the pictures so your not tresspassing
personally, i would be a bit suspicious if i saw sombody taking pictures of my animals, but i wouldnt be angry or annoyed. also it depends if it looks like the person doesnt want you to see the animal ors take pictures of them, for instance, if there is heavy fencing around them, then i would ask permission. but if its just a simple wooden fence, then i dont think you need to.
hope this helped.

I believe that the owner wouldn't mind at all, it's not against the law, and would probably be more of an invasion if you went to their door and knocked than just to simply take the pics that you want.

Good Luck.
no... if u are not on there property, there is no need to have permission i dont think, its not like you are spying on them!! lol...
i would def. say no to that.
In most countries it is not against the law to take photos from the public highway.

If the animals look well looked after, and you avoid flash I would expect most owners would see no problem with it.

If the animals are NOT well looked after the owner might be more concerned that you are collecting evidence to use against them.

Even though it is legal you should be polite if challenged.

Don't forget to watch out for rare flowers and interesting insects too.
